Research shows students are most successful when they start their college careers by making a purposeful choice in a focus area or program. This is one element that Southwestern uses to create a Momentum Year
for students - a starting point that helps students find their path, get
on that path, and build velocity in the direction of their goals. Therefore, all students must select an Academic Focus Area. For an explanation of Southwestern's Focus Areas, please watch this short video. If after reviewing the Focus Areas below and watching the Focus Area Overview video you are still uncertain of a Focus Area, please complete the online Focus 2 Self-Assessment that is referenced in the video. Click on the link Focus 2 link, select "Register," use "gsw" as "Your Access Code," and complete the rest of the form. Use your registered STORM Day date as the "Class or Group." You will be contacted to discuss the results of the assessment and to help you make a Focus Area decision. If you do not select a focus area or complete the Focus 2 Self-Assessment in advance, you will be required to complete the assessment at STORM Day which will add time to your day.
